Brunswick Carries On Bike Gift Tradition

· Reading Time: 1 minute

The Exchange club of Brunswick has carried out a great tradition.  Powell McDonald 30 years ago saw a need in Brunswick and he started giving bikes to children who did not have one. Powell did this on his own for years and then his good friend Jimmy Hancock started helping him. The need grew larger than two men could do alone so they approached Gary Johnson president of the Exchange club of Brunswick at that time about the club helping. The Exchange club of Brunswick took on this project hole heartedly and it has grown to 80-90 bicycles given away each year. Powell McDonald and Jimmy Hancock passed away some years ago but Jimmy’s son-in-law Mark Bearden has chaired this program since. Each member of the Exchange club of Brunswick pays for these bikes from fines that our Sgt. At arms imposes on members each week. This year 80 plus children received a bike for Christmas thanks to the Exchange club of Brunswick.
