The Exchange Club of Rome recently hosted AirLife/Air Methods Georgia at one of their weekly meetings. AirLife brought not only the crew but the helicopter as well to educate Exchangites. They learned the local branch of the emergency helicopter service is parked at Redmond Regional Hospital, but is not affiliated with this hospital. These emergency responders are dispatched through 911 calls that reach an operations center in Oklahoma and the closest available helicopter to the needed location is dispatched. While very compact, the tour after the meeting proved that, these “birds” are fully equipped with all of the necessary lifesaving equipment and drugs to work on patients while in route. Their crew which consists of a pilot, a Registered Nurse, and an EMT.
