Rome Toys For Tots Fills The Need

· Reading Time: 2 minutes

This is the fourth year the Exchangites have headed the program since the removal of the local Marine Corps Reserve Unit for the city.  The club has formed a great coalition between Exchangites, Marine Corps League members, and countless community volunteers to make sure families in need have something for Christmas for their children…smiles instead of tears.

The Toys For Tots program in Rome is a year round program of purchasing and warehousing new toys that are secured by financial donations made during the annual campaign.  Because of the generous support of the community, new toys are purchased throughout the year at clearance sales in retail stores as well as manufacturers closeout periods and inventory reduction and rotation efforts by the “big box” retailers.  In many instances, toys can be purchased at costs of at least 50% to 75% off normal retail prices.

One of the greatest success stories of the Rome effort is the way the Exchange Club has been able to bring together individual volunteers and organizations under this one umbrella to “do it for the kids”.
